The death has been announced of the former General Secretary of the Irish Bank Officials' Association Larry Broderick.
Mr Broderick held the role of General Secretary from 2001 until his retirement in 2018.
The Irish Bank Officials' Association was renamed the Financial Services Union in 2016.
The FSU said today it had learned of Mr Broderick's untimely death with great sadness.
"Our sympathies and condolences go to his wife Elizabeth and his daughter Lauren at this sad time," the FSU said in a tweet.
The FSU General Secretary John O'Connell extended his condolences to Mr Broderick's family and to the FSU colleagues who worked with him over a long number of years.
"A trade union leader, a gentleman and a friend to many. May he rest in peace," Mr O'Connell tweeted.
Owen Reidy, the General Secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, said he was very sad to learn of Mr Broderick's death and extended his condolences to his family.
"I met him when I worked in SIPTU, he was collaborative and supportive to me as a young official," Mr Reidy said.
"At ICTU I got to work with him again and he was insightful, collegiate and forward thinking," he added.
