Google Maps is to roll out a new 'immersive view' feature in Dublin this month.

The multi-dimensional view will also be launched in Amsterdam, Florence and Venice.

It is already available in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, London, and Tokyo.

Google is also expanding immersive view to more than 500 iconic landmarks around the world including St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin.

Google described immersive view as a new way to explore that is more natural and intuitive.

"Immersive View uses computer vision and AI to fuse together billions of Street View and aerial images to create a realistic, multi-dimensional view of a place so you can feel like you're really there," Google said.

"And it layers helpful information on top like the weather and how busy a place is," the company said.

Google also said that this month it will roll out 'glanceable directions' in maps which will allow users to track trip progress without entering full navigation mode.
