The Ireland Strategic Investment Fund is committing €65m to Just Climate's $1.5 billion fundraising announced today, joining major global climate investors.
Just Climate, created by former US President Al Gore, is an investment business established to address the net zero challenge at scale.
Just Climate plans to actively seek climate-related investment opportunities in Ireland and will also explore how global opportunities in the Just Climate pipeline - including low carbon tech and natural climate solutions - could be brought to Ireland.
Paul Saunders, Head of Climate, Ireland Strategic Investment Fund, said ISIF sees this as a real opportunity to accelerate the transition to Net Zero – not just in Ireland but world-wide.
"The extent and urgency of the climate challenge require ISIF and other major investors to work together to drive innovation in climate action," Mr Saunders said.
"We believe this initiative is a major step forward in sustainable investing and increasing the capital available to target high-impact areas in the shift to a low-carbon economy," he stated.
"As Ireland’s sovereign development fund with a significant ambition to address the climate challenge and a mandate that aligns with this platform, we are proud to be a part of it," he added.
