A total of 7,800 passengers travelled through Shannon Airport on Friday June 2 - the highest number of passengers to use the airport in one day since 2016.
Shannon Airport said the record numbers were driven by its strong transatlantic performance and an expanded range of UK and European services across 48 flights to and from 18 destinations to seven countries.
The airport saw a 27% increase in passenger traffic in May compared to the same month in 2022.
"We are continuing to see an increase in the volume of passengers through Shannon since the start of the year. There is a real appetite for overseas travel, especially as we reach peak holiday season," the CEO of The Shannon Airport Group Mary Considine said.
She said the higher passenger numbers at the airport coincided with its new United Airlines Chicago service and the return of Ryanair's seasonal services to Corfu and Barcelona-Girona over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Dublin Airport said it had seen 3.05 million passengers travel through its facilities during May, similar to the number that travelled in the same month in 2019 and up 17% on 2022 levels.
Its sister terminal at Cork Airport had a total of 262,318 passengers pass through it during May, representing a 28% uplift on May 2022 and 10% increase versus May 2019.
After last summer's delays, Dublin Airport said 95% of passengers passed through security in 20 minutes or less last month.
In Cork it was 99%.
However, on-time departure performance was not as good, with just 58% of flights leaving Dublin at the allotted time, a figure skewed by air traffic control strikes on the continent.
In Cork the record was slightly better with 78% leaving on time.
