A company controlled by publican and hotelier Louis Fitzgerald and his wife is to buy the famous Imperial Hotel in Cork.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission said it had been notified of the proposed deal.
The Fitzgeralds are to make the purchase through their company, Belbyford Limited.
The family already controls the Fitzgerald Group, which operates 19 hospitality related businesses, including pubs, hotels, restaurants and investment properties.
Located on South Mall in Cork City, the four-star boutique Imperial Hotel has 125 bedrooms, as well as bar, restaurant, ballroom and spa.
It is currently owned by the Flynn Hotel Group which purchased it in 1998 from Hanover International UK.
Since then, the property has undergone extensive renovations.
In 2006 €10m was spent on redeveloping the bedrooms and restaurant, and the launch of the spa.
In 2015, a further €1m was spent on refreshing the bedrooms again, as well as on a new fitness suite and bar.
Three years later another €400,000 was invested in refurbishing 45 bedrooms and other parts of the hotel.
Known by many as the "Grand Dame" of Cork City, the Imperial was where Michael Collins spent his final night before he was shot dead in 1922.
It has also played host to many other significant figures and stars down through the years.
The Flynn Hotel Group also owns properties in Ennis, Kilkenny and Waterford.
