IKEA customers will be able to collect their orders from some Tesco car parks as part of a six-month long pilot involving the two companies.

Mitchelstown in Cork, Drogheda in Louth and Naas in Kildare will be first three locations where the trial service will be available.

Six additional pilot sites will begin operating later this year in Limerick, Galway, Cork, Waterford, Tipperary and Wexford.

IKEA customers will not have to pay for the collection service if the order is over €200.

Orders under that threshold will cost €15 to avail of the facility, which begins today.

"Collaborating with Tesco to test-and-trial convenient, accessible, and affordable collection services across key locations in Ireland is a real source of pride for us," said Martyn Allan, Market Manager with IKEA in Ireland.

"This partnership acknowledges the dynamic nature of the retail industry and provides an opportunity to bring IKEA closer to a wider audience."

The development follows the opening of a number of new IKEA plan and order points around the country over the last year.

The company also recently announced plans for its first Customer Distribution Centre in west Dublin.
