An award-winning documentary about the 1,000 Irish Debenhams workers who were made redundant in April 2020 was screened in Leinster House today.

The film entitled '406 Days' tells the story of the pickets that were mounted by the workers on the closed Debenhams stores for more than a year, blocking efforts to remove stock from the premises by the liquidator.

The workers had been demanding an enhanced redundancy package of four weeks' pay per year of service rather than the legal minimum of two weeks.

Today's screening was attended by former Debenhams workers.

The event was hosted by People Before Profit-Solidarity TD Richard Boyd Barrett and took place in advance of the film going on general release in cinemas across Ireland later this month.

All TDs and senators were invited to attend.

'406 Days' won the 2023 Dublin International Film Festival Audience Award, the 2023 ICCL Human Rights Film Award and the 2023 Dublin Film Critics Circle Award for Best Irish Documentary.
