New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the seasonally adjusted Live Register total for April stood at 180,500 persons, a fall of 300 or 0.2% from the previous month.
The CSO said the unadjusted Live Register total stood at 179,001 people in April.
Of the 179,001 people on the unadjusted Live Register in April 2023, 53.5% were men, while the 35-44 age group made up the largest number of those signing on at 42,600 people or 23.8% of the total.
Figures last week from the CSO showed that the country's unemployment rate fell to 3.9% in April from a revised 4% a month earlier to match the previous record low of the early 2000s.
Today's CSO figures show the counties that saw the largest percentage increase in the number of people on the Live Register in the 12 months to April were Kerry (28.6%) and Leitrim (25.3%).
They also reveal that the number of people on the Live Register for one year or more in April stood at 62,370, down 5,146 from a year earlier.
There were 116,631 people (65.2%) on the Live Register for less than one year, the CSO added.
Meanwhile, 23,093 people were benefitting from the EU's Temporary Protection Directive included in the Live Register figures for April, a decrease of 202 from March.
People arriving in Ireland from Ukraine under the EU's Temporary Protection Directive (TPD) can access a wide range of Department of Social Protection (DSP) supports.
