Average daily spending increased by 4% in March compared to the previous month.
In total €97m was spent every day during the month, the new data from AIB has found.
Groceries saw the highest level of spend accounting for 18%, followed by health and beauty, hardware, restaurants and clothing, all of which captured 5%.
Hardware recorded an increase of 10% in the average daily spend while grocery daily spend rose by 4%.
Longford and Cavan had the biggest increase in overall average daily spend, at 6% and 5% respectively.
Neighbouring Roscommon and Monaghan had the lowest overall average daily spend, at 3%.
The data captured from 60 million debit and credit card transactions in store and online during the month found over a third of the spend came online.
Chip and Pin also accounted for third of the transactions, while digital wallets were behind 18% and contactless 12%.
Digital wallet average daily spend rose by 7% versus the previous month.
Daily spend was highest on Friday 31 March, and lowest on Sunday 19 March, after St Patrick's Day celebrations had concluded.
"As you might expect, St Patrick’s Day was a bumper day for pubs and off licences, with spending up by a third when compared to the next busiest day in March, and up 166% on the corresponding day in February," said John Brennan, Head of SME Banking at AIB.
"Undoubtedly the festivities were welcomed by those in the sector after a quieter period in the first two months of the year."
Overall Cavan had the largest increase in average daily spend, up 7%, followed by Leitrim at 6%.
Men accounted for the majority of average daily spend in pubs and off-licences, at 65% versus 35% for women.
There was evidence of holiday planning taking place with those under 25 increasing their spend on airline travel by 13%.
