The Aztec Group, an international fund administrator, is to set up a new hub in Kilkenny City as it establishes its presence in Ireland.

Aztec said it plans to recruit about 30 people to work in its new Kilkenny hub over the coming months.

Founded in 2001 in the Channel Islands, the Aztec Group is an independent, owner managed, fund, corporate and depository services firm. It employs more than 1,800 people globally across offices in Jersey, Guernsey, Luxembourg, the UK and the US.

As part of its expansion into Ireland, Aztec said it will be licenced to provide fund administration and depository services, subject to regulatory approval.

In his new role as Head of Ireland Fund Services and Group Head of Private Debt, Kevin Hogan will lead the growth and development of Aztec's presence in Ireland and is also responsible for the continued success of its Private Debt business.

Before joining the Aztec Group, he spent seven years at State Street.

Mr Hogan said the regulatory landscape makes Ireland an attractive place to do business for the sector and, with the growth in private markets which is forecast to continue, it is the right time for the company to expand into Ireland.

"We also believe Kilkenny is the ideal location for us to attract the talent we need over the coming months and years," he added.

Aztec CEO Edward Moore said that while the company may be new to Ireland, its experience built up over more than 20 years serving the European alternative investment industry means it is perfectly placed to support both new and existing clients here.

"Our vision is to be a leading global provider of administration services to the alternatives industry - our move into Ireland is a significant step forward in making that vision a reality," he added.

Minister for Enterprise Trade & Employment Simon Coveney said the Aztec Group are leaders in their field and news of the creation of 30 jobs in their Kilkenny hub is a "fantastic boost".

Interim CEO of IDA Ireland Mary Buckley said the company's decision to expand into Ireland is terrific news for the Kilkenny and the South-East Region's well established IFS cluster.

"Total employment in IDA client companies in Ireland now stands at 301,475, which is a 9% increase on our 2021 figures. 242 investments were won in 2022 with 127, including Aztec Group, going to regional locations," she added.
