Fuel retailer and clothes shop feature on latest tax defaulters' list

A Co Monaghan based fuel retailer made the largest settlement with Revenue during the final three months of last year, according to the latest tax defaulters' list.

Dominiam Services Ltd, a fuel retailer and convenience store operator, with an address at Drumganus, Broomfield in Castleblaney, owed the tax collector €146,197 for under declaration of excise duty and VAT, arising from an investigation.

When interest of €115,563 and penalties of €65,121 are added, the total amount owed reached €326,881.

Revenue said the money had been paid in full by the end of December.

The next largest settlement, totalling €210,492, related to Mai Madden, a clothes retailer trading as Mai’s Boutique at 108 Main Street in Templemore, Co Tipperary.

That case arose from a Revenue investigation which uncovered an under-declaration of PAYE, PRSI, USC and VAT.

The tax owed totalled €126,159 with interest of €46,485 and penalties of €37,848 and as of December 31st, €70,492 remained unpaid.

Overall, six settlements are listed on the latest list, with the total value reaching €1.1m.

Five of the cases exceeded €100,000 and in four cases the settlement was not fully paid by December 31st, with €528,874 outstanding.

Other settlements included a case involving Clara Medical Limited, a medical staff provider with an address at 44 Coopers Grange, Old Quarter, Ballincollig, Co Cork.

It owed Revenue €186,453 in tax, interest and penalties arising from the under-declaration of PAYE, PRSI and USC, with all of that amount still unpaid by the end of the year.

While company director, Charles Garvey, with an address at Delphi, Rosanna, Lee Road, Carrigrohane in Co Cork settled for a total of €83,960 arising from the under declaration of income tax.

Also published today was the latest list of cases where the penalty was decided by a court.

There were three such cases between October and December, with fines totalling €1.4m.

The largest related to company director Harish Bansal of 7 Glencairn View, The Gallops, Leopardstown in Dublin 18, who was fined €1.349m by the courts for the under declaration of income tax.

While there were 86 cases where a court imposed a penalty for tax or duty offences, with fines totalling €202,100.
