New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the seasonally adjusted Live Register total for February fell by 0.9% to 182,500 people.

The unadjusted Live Register total stood at 183,401 people for February.

The CSO said that of the 183,401 people on the unadjusted Live Register in February, 53.5% were men and 69.6% were Irish.

The 35-44 age group made up the largest number of those on the Live Register last month at 43,473 persons or 23.7% of the total.

Today's figures show that all counties saw an increase in the numbers on the Live Register in the 12 months to February.

The counties that saw the largest percentage increase in the number of people on the Live Register were Kerry (43.1%), Leitrim (37.6%) and Clare (37.6%).

The counties with the lowest increase were Kildare (0.8%) and Tipperary (1.9%).

The CSO noted that 23,176 people were benefitting from the EU's Temporary Protection Directive included in the Live Register figures for February, an increase of 299 from January.

People arriving in Ireland from Ukraine under the EU's Temporary Protection Directive (TPD) can access a wide range of Department of Social Protection (DSP) supports, including unemployment supports.

Figures earlier this week from the CSO showed that the unemployment rate fell to 4.3% in February from 4.4% the previous month.

The jobless rate has remained between a 21-year low of 4.2% and 4.5% over the last 10 months amid a tight labour market.

The unemployment rate of 4.3% in February was lower than the pre-pandemic level of 4.8% recorded in February 2020.
