IKEA is today opening a new smaller outlet in Co Louth where customers can plan kitchens and bedrooms and order what they need.

Located in the Scotch Hall Shopping Centre in Drogheda, it is the latest development from the company as it expands its physical retail presence across Ireland.

The retailer already has similar 'Plan & Order Points' in Naas, Co Kildare and Stephen's Green in Dublin's city centre. Both were opened over the last year.

It is also planning to open one in Cork later this year.

A fifth shop is planned for Portlaoise before the end of 2023.

"We look forward to announcing more of these points which will be located in retail parks and shopping centres over the next 12 months," Martyn Allen, Market Manager, IKEA Ireland added.

The stores enable customers to plan their design through a pre-booked free appointment with a planning specialist or by using in-store service tools.

They can also order the items they need to complete the design.

However, the stores do not stock the goods.

"Our investment in Plan and Order Points is part of our long-term plan to transform our retail business, making it easier for our customers in Ireland to enjoy what IKEA offers using a number of convenient ways," Mr Allen said.

IKEA will also open its first distribution centre in Ireland this year which will enable quicker fulfilment of products for customers.

Last month, IKEA said it had total sales in Ireland of €216.7 million for the year ending last August, up 14% compared to the previous 12 months.
