70 new jobs are to be created by Expleo in Galway.

The global technology, engineering and consulting service provider is opening a new innovation hub in the city.

It is also investing €5m in the expansion of its life sciences and engineering research and development teams.

The investment is taking place over the next two years with the new roles set to be in the areas of mechanical, electrical and digital engineering, business consulting, software development and testing.

When combined with the 200 new positions announced last June, it will bring to 1,000 the total number of people working for the company across the island of Ireland.

The new innovation hub is part of a plan by the firm to establish a network of regional offices around the country, with the first in Mahon in Cork opening last June.

"We are delighted to be continuing our regional expansion plans with the opening of our Galway hub," said Phil Codd, Managing Director, Expleo Ireland.

"As Expleo continues to go from strength to strength on the island of Ireland, these hubs will provide us with the talent and momentum we need to deliver on our ambitious growth plans."

The latest hub will be located at the Galway Technology Centre in Mervue.

The company also has offices in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Belfast.

"As a global company, we bring experience and expertise from many disciplines and areas to support the growing demand in Ireland's pharmaceutical and medical device design and manufacturing sector," said Mr Codd.

"Our new hub in Galway will provide cutting-edge services to businesses operating in the life sciences, software and automotive industries, helping them to innovate at speed and scale."

"Galway’s economy is thriving, and we are excited to be a part of it while also contributing to its growth."
