The company that operates the toll system on motorways, eFlow, has strongly advised motorists not to respond to scam texts that incorrectly warn that they will incur penalty charges.
The SMS circulating to some mobile phones claims to come from eFlow and says: "You have an outstanding amount due from a journey made in 2022.
"Please pay now to avoid incurring any penalty charges".
The text then contains a suspicious link to click on.
However eFlow has issued a statement to warn recipients of the scam text not to click on any such link.
A spokesperson said: "eFlow are aware of scam text messages in circulation.
"Please do not open any links to correspondence you receive from eFlow and contact us if you're suspicious of any text messages you receive."
eFlow has also published an information graphic in response to the scam on its social media channels.
