The death has taken place of the chairman of stockbroking firm Goodbody and well-known Irish businessman, Gary Kennedy.
He was 65 years old.
In January Mr Kennedy temporarily stepped back from duties as chairman of UK listed bathroom and kitchen manufacturer, Norcros Plc, due to ill-health.
This morning the company revealed that he had passed away.
"The Board of Directors on behalf of the entire Group expresses its sincere condolences to Gary's family and many friends," it said.
Mr Kennedy began his career in Deloitte in 1978 and later spent 12 years working with Nortel Networks in a variety of roles around the world.
He then became Group Finance Director for AIB as well as a board member of the bank, where he remained until 2005.
As well as chairing the Goodbody board since the middle of last year, Mr Kennedy also served as chairman in a number of other companies, most recently at Greencore where he was succeeded last month by Leslie Van de Walle.
"Gary – who was our Chair for ten years until January 2023 – was a great leader, a dedicated businessman, a true people person and a valued friend and advisor," the company said in a statement today.
"We extend our deepest condolences to all his family and friends at this sad time."
Mr Kennedy was also previously chairman of Green Reit and the Connect Group in the UK.
He also served as a Government appointed board member of the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation, as well as a director of IDA Ireland, Friends' First Holdings and Elan.
Mr Kennedy was also previously a co-chair of the Government’s 'Balance for Better Business’ initiative.
