Hospitality group Press Up is planning a new hotel in Belfast.

The company is seeking permission to build a new premises under The Dean brand at 34-44 Bedford Street and 4-6 Clarence Street in the city.

If it gets the green light, the hotel will have 91 bedrooms and will feature a 13m rooftop pool.

"This site is one of cultural significance, right next to the Ulster Hall, a venue that speaks to Belfast's built heritage," said Jessica Carlyle-Clarke, Head of Business Development & New Opportunities UK at Press Up and sister company Oakmount.

"This is an exciting time for the Group as it looks to develop its footprint across the UK and Ireland."

Should it proceed, it is estimated that the hotel will create up to 170 full-time jobs.

Press Up already operate Dean hotels in Dublin, Cork and Galway, with the first one opening in the capital nine years ago.

It also received planning permission last year for a Dean in Birmingham, the first for the brand outside Ireland.

The company is part of the McKillen Corporation, run by Paddy McKillen Junior, which has a portfolio of around 65 businesses.
