Permanent TSB Group Holdings has appointed Julie O'Neill as chairperson of its board after what it called a comprehensive and competitive selection process.

The appointment will take effect from March 31 when the bank's current Chairperson Robert Elliott retires.

Before her appointment as Chairperson, Ms O'Neill will join the board as an Independent Non-Executive Director with immediate effect.

Julie O'Neill has held a number of senior government positions, including Secretary General of both the Department of Transport and the Department of Marine and Natural Resources.

She also holds and has held a number of other non-executive director roles, including Chairperson of the Convention Centre Dublin, XL Insurance Company, AXA Life Europe and Ryanair Group from which she retired last September after a nine year tenure.

She also previously served a six-year term on the Permanent TSB Group Holdings Board from 2014 to 2020 as an independent non-executive director.

Eamonn Crowley, Permanent TSB's CEO, said that Julie O'Neill's extensive business experience and in-depth knowledge of the bank and wider industry will be invaluable as its further transforms and grows.

"Permanent TSB is uniquely positioned in the Irish market to provide something different for customers and the economy and I look forward to working with the Board, Eamonn and the wider team to deliver on the Bank's ambition to become Ireland's best personal and small business bank," Ms O'Neill said today.
