The Government has to be open to adapting the support schemes aimed at helping businesses with rising costs, the Minister for Enterprise has said.

Simon Coveney said the package put in place in the budget aimed to help businesses with dramatic increases in energy costs.

He said the aim was to limit the disruption as much as possible, but added that the Government won't get it right every time.

"And that's why I think we have to be open to adapting and changing those schemes if they're sort of missing the sweet spot in certain areas," he said.

"That's what we did during Covid, you know, we got a scheme out there early."

"It didn't suit everybody and then we chopped and changed and amended those schemes as we went, and I think you'll probably see something similar in terms of cost of living supports, for energy supports in particular, and also the support in terms of the disruption caused by the war in Ukraine in terms of supply chain disruption and so on."

"So we'll continue to talk to businesses."
