Three Ireland said today it plans to introduce a minimum pay rate increase of 17.4% for its lower paid staff, to align with living wage foundation rates.

The increase, effective from January 1 2023, will apply to all employees currently on €23,000.

Three said the main beneficiaries of the pay increase will be staff working in Three retail and customer service.

Three, which has 1,400 employees in Ireland, also confirmed it will make a once-off €500 cost of living payment to employees earning €35,000 or below.

It said this is in recognition of the current cost of living challenges.

Mark Redmond, Chief People Officer at Three Ireland & Three UK, said that investing in its people is a key business strategy of the company.

"Our people are central to our success and we have a responsibility to support them," he said.

"In recognition of this and of the incredible work our people do, we are pleased to commit to the hourly rate of €13.85 as recommended by the Living Wage Technical Group for 2023. This is a 35% increase from our 2021 hourly rate of €10.20," he stated.

"Furthermore, we are cognisant of the current cost of living challenges and we are supporting our employees earning €35,000 or below through a one-off voucher worth €500," he added.

Earlier this year, Three announced the creation of 175 jobs at its Limerick customer experience centre.
