New figures from the Central Statistics Office show the number of passengers using Irish airports in the third quarter of 2022 was still 10% lower than the same time in 2019 - pre-Covid.
The CSO said that almost 3.5 million more passengers travelled to Ireland in the third quarter of 2022 when compared with the same time last year.
But that is still 0.6 million fewer passengers compared to the same time in 2019.
Meanwhile, 5.2 million passengers departed from Ireland, which was 3.5 million more than the same quarter in 2021, but less than 0.6 million when compared with the third quarter of 2019.
A total of 10.4 million passengers passed through the five main Irish airports - Dublin, Cork, Shannon, Knock, and Kerry - in the three months from July to September, almost three times that of 2021.
The CSO also noted that almost 24.3 million passengers passed through the main Irish airports in the first nine months of 2022 - more than five times higher than those using the airports in the first nine months of 2021.
The number of flights to and from Irish airports in the three month period increased by more than 36,000 when compared with the same time in 2021 but were still 13% lower than the same quarter in 2019.
Just over 68,700 flights were handled by the five main airports in the three month period under review, with Dublin handling 84% of all flight, while Cork handled 7% of all flights.
London-Heathrow, London-Gatwick and Amsterdam-Schiphol were the most popular routes for passengers using Dublin airport.
The top route for Cork airport was London-Heathrow, the top route for Knock and Shannon airports was London-Stansted, while the top route for Kerry airport was London-Luton.
Today's CSO figures also show that air freight handled by Irish airports in the third quarter increaed by 3% compared to the same time in 2021.
