The EU is to contribute €142m towards fishing, aquaculture and the blue economy in Ireland between now and 2027.
The money is coming from the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund 2021-2027.
The funding is to be used to help implement the EU common fisheries policy here and relevant priorities in the European Green Deal.
"The programme aims to boost the resilience of the entire seafood sector, to accelerate its green transition, as well as to support the coastal communities," said Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius.
"The programme will also enhance knowledge to deal with climate change and impacts on marine biodiversity."
Half of the money will have to be spent on sustainable fisheries and conservation of aquatic biological resources.
Just over a third will be for sustainable aquaculture, processing and marketing.
6% will go towards developing the sustainable blue economy is areas around our coasts.
