Irish medtech start-up Akkure has raised more than €1m in a week through a crowdfunding campaign.

The Nova UCD company, which matches patients with clinical trials, launched a funding campaign on Spark Crowdfunding last week.

After seven days, it has raised just over €1.03m from 117 investors.

It marks the second time the company has raised money through crowdfunding. Last year it raised €1.18m from almost 200 investors.

The money will go towards Akkure's Trial Finder platform, which uses artificial intelligence to match patients with the most suitable clinical trial.

This makes it easier for both patients to find a relevant clinical trial out of the thousands taking place around the world at any time.

Physicians can also use the platform to find patients, allowing them to properly test their innovations.
