Buildings materials company CRH has the worst CEO to median employee salary ratio of any FTSE 100 company, according to an analysis by Tortoise Media.
Its latest Responsibility100 Index puts the ratio at 289:1.
Last year the total pay package of CRH chief executive, Albert Manifold, topped €13.9m.
This represented a new record for the boss of an Iseq company.
It was made up of a basic salary of almost €1.61 million and €551,000 of cash benefits, paid in the place of pension contributions, as well as a €3.07 million annual bonus and €8.65 million of stock awards under a long-term incentive plan.
During the summer some workers at a CRH subsidiary in the UK, Tarmac, threatened industrial action over an offer of a 3.75% pay increase they received and subsequently rejected, comparing it to the scale of the 24% pay increase Mr Manifold received in 2021.
The responsibility index ranks FTSE 100 companies according to their commitments and actions towards key social, environmental and ethical issues.
It does this by tracking each company's performance and impact against six key pillars of equality, climate, good business, justice, poverty and wellbeing and skills and education.
It uses 200 indicators to compare commitments or "talk" scores with performance or "walk" scores.
CRH ranked just 77th on its talk score and 94th on its walk score.
Flutter Entertaintment came in at 84th place on its talk score and 90th with its walk score.
DCC achieved 94th place on the talk metric but a slightly more respectable 78th position with its walk score.
Smurfit Kappa was the highest placed Irish firm on both metrics, landing in 52nd position for talk and 76th for walk.
The analysis found that CEO pay across all the firms in the FTSE 100 has increased on average by 31% this year.
It also found that 47 companies do not have any female executives at CEO, CFO, COO or chair level.
While 90% of emissions generated by all 100 companies are not covered by science based targets, which require deep emissions reductions while minimising the use of offsets.
