The number of residential property transactions across the State last year was 2.5% higher than 2019, according to a new report from the CSO on recorded property transactions across the country's 166 Local Electoral Areas (LEAs).
The total number of transactions nationwide was 45,280 in 2019.
The CSO said this fell by 16.1% to 38,010 in 2020 before rising by 22.1% to 46,420 in 2021.
Today's CSO figures show that 101 or 60.8% of LEAs are ahead of their 2019 sales. These include Glenties in Co Donegal, Trim in Co Meath and Cobh in Co Cork.
They also reveal that 51 or 30.7% of LEAs are below their 2019 figures. These include Tallaght South and Navan in Co Meath.
Fingal in Dublin was the LEA with the highest number of transactions in 2021, with 830. This was split between 570 joint purchases and 260 sole purchases.
Ballybay-Clones in Co Monaghan was the LEA with the smallest number of transactions at 60. These were evenly split between 30 joint and 30 sole purchases.
The CSO said the highest median, or mid-point, price for a property based on sole purchases was in Stillorgan in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown at €612,500.
The highest median price for joint purchases was in Pembroke, Dublin City, at €880,000.
Meanwhile, the lowest median price based on sole purchases was in Lifford-Stranorlar in Co Donegal, at €105,000. Based on joint purchases, the lowest median price was in Ballybay-Clones at €127,000.
The median age nationwide of sole house purchasers was 41. This ranged from a median of 34 in Ballybay-Clones and Donaghmede, Dublin City, to 55 in Kilmuckridge, Co Wexford.
The median age nationwide of joint house purchasers was 38. This ranged from a median of 34 in Ballyfermot-Drimnagh, Leixlip in Co Kildare and Tallaght Central to 53 in Belmullet in Co Mayo and Corca Dhuibhne in Co Kerry.
The highest median income for sole purchasers was in South East Inner City Dublin at €79,200. The highest median income for joint purchasers was in Pembroke at €182,400.
The lowest median income for sole purchasers was in Buncrana in Co. Donegal at €29,600 while Carndonagh, also in Co Donegal, had the lowest median income for joint purchasers at €41,300.
