Bauer Media Audio has agreed a deal to buy regional radio station Red FM in Cork.

The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval.

Bauer Media already owns Today FM, Newstalk and SPIN here.

It said that after the Red FM deal, it will extend its total weekly reach to almost 1.9 million listeners.

Cork's Red FM has more than 129,000 listeners tuning in every day.

In a statement, Bauer Media Audio said it was committed to ensuring that Red FM continues to grow and develop.

Diarmuid O'Leary, CEO at Red FM, said that over the past two decades, Cork's Red FM has grown to become one of the region's most popular radio stations, informing and entertaining listeners across the city and county

"Red FM is now ready to embark on a new chapter, and I'm sure that as a valued part of Bauer Media Audio, the station will continue to soar to even greater heights," he added.
