MSD Ireland's new manufacturing facility at MSD Biotech in Swords, Co Dublin, has been officially opened Taoiseach, Micheál Martin and Robert M. Davis, Global CEO and President of MSD.
The healthcare company has invested more than €1 billion in the biotech site since construction began in 2018 and it already plays a pivotal role in the manufacture of MSD's biologics-based medicines, including immuno-oncology.
The opening of the new site has created 350 jobs and there are currently 70 open positions.
MSD employs nearly 3,000 people across its six sites in Ireland. The firm has invested over $4 billion in its Irish operations in recent years. Its annual turnover ranks it as one of Ireland’s top 20 companies.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin said today's opening is an endorsement of its past success and commitment to the future. "This investment is a vote of confidence in the talent of our workforce, and Ireland’s reputation as a cradle for biopharma innovation. I wish all the team at MSD here in Ireland continued success as they work towards improving the lives of patients."
CEO, Robert M. Davis, said the company's team in Ireland plays an integral role in using the power of leading-edge science to save and improve lives around the world. "Our ongoing investment in Ireland, including this state-of-the-art facility in Swords, is a testament to our commitment to the country and our talented colleagues in Ireland. I am pleased to join in the opening of our new MSD Biotech site, which will play an important role in our global network."
