A new report of HR professionals highlights both physical and mental health concerns among workers in the sector.

The research carried out by professional development body CIPD Ireland and Workday shows that just 42% describe their mental health as good or very good, while only 38% of those surveyed described their physical health as good or very good.

"Employers need to ensure that they provide adequate support for people who require support, no matter their role in the organisation," said Mary Connaughton, Director of CIPD Ireland.

"People professionals themselves must also remember that their own wellbeing is just as important as that of the colleagues they support," she added.

Michael Douroux, group vice president, Northern Europe and South Africa of Workday said the role of HR professionals has grown considerably since the pandemic.

"They have been tasked with supporting workforces through both personal and private lives while attracting and retaining talent in a highly competitive market," he said.

"We have experienced a decade's worth of changes in just two years," he added.

The survey of 1,500 professionals in Ireland and the UK also shows that 72% of HR professionals have upskilled or reskilled since the pandemic.
