The two companies have announced plans for a €25 million expansion of their food production facilities.

Convenience food companies Country Crest and Ballymaguire Foods are set to create 200 new jobs over the next five years.

The sister companies produce ready meals at their processing plant in Lusk, in North County Dublin.

The products are supplied to supermarkets across the country as own-brand products.

In order to increase their production capacity, the two companies have announced plans for a €25 million expansion of their food production facilities.

Construction of the first phase of the expansion is underway, and is expected to be completed by next summer.

At that stage, the companies will have the capacity to produce one million ready meals per week at the site.

Country Crest and Ballymaguire Foods currently employ around 400 people between the two companies.

Once the new roles are filled, employee numbers are set to reach 600.

Hiring is due to start right away, with roles across management positions, R&D, quality control, technicians, engineering, cooks and general operatives.

"This is an exciting time for our convenience food business here in Lusk, North County Dublin," said Michael Hoey, Managing Director of Country Crest.

"This is a vote of confidence in the Irish food industry, an industry that continues to thrive despite the tough economic conditions we are all experiencing at present," he said.
