The British Irish Chamber of Commerce has today called on Liz Truss's successor to find practical solutions to the Northern Ireland Protocol and work to restore the EU-UK relationship.

John McGrane, Director-General of the British Irish Chamber of Commerce, said he acknowledged the efforts of Liz Truss to begin restoring the British-Irish relationship and addressing the issues related to the Northern Ireland Protocol.
"It's vital that her successor as Conservative Party leader engages constructively to find practical solutions to the Northern Ireland Protocol," Mr McGrane said.
With Northern Ireland likely to face another Assembly election in December, there is a pressing need to fill the political vacuum that exists," he added.
He said that businesses on both sides of the Irish Sea urge the UK Government to continue working with the EU and Irish Government on strengthening the Trade and Cooperations Agreement.
"From addressing rising inflation to combatting climate change, the UK and Ireland must work together to address the shared challenges we face," he stated.
John McGrane said that what businesses need most is stability and certainty.
"Providing clarity to businesses must be the number one focus for the new UK Prime Minister so that we can unlock the benefits afforded by UK-Ireland and EU-UK trade. The Chamber remains committed to working with the British and Irish governments to protect and enhance the ties between us," he added.
