Dalata opens new Maldron Hotel in Dublin city

Dalata Hotel Group has today opened the 140-bedroom four star Maldron Hotel Merrion Road in Dublin.

The new hotel is part of a mixed-use development constructed by McAleer & Rushe which included the construction of 64 apartments, five townhouses and a basement car park where the hotel has access to 68 car parking spaces.

Dalata, which is the biggest hotel operator in the country, said the opening of the new hotel will add another 77 new hospitality jobs in the city.

The hotel group has added 1,902 rooms to its portfolio in the year to the end of 2022 across prime locations in Dublin, Glasgow, Manchester, Bristol and Dusseldorf.

"The opening of Maldron Hotel Merrion Road demonstrates our continued commitment to Dublin as a key market for Dalata," the company said.

Dalata chief executive Dermot Crowley said that with sustainability a core focus for the group, the new Dublin hotel has been developed with state-of- the-art energy measurement and management systems.

He said this allows the group to be fully informed and reactive to ensure a sustainable and environmentally friendly hotel.

"Across the group, we are happy to report that we have reduced energy consumption per room sold by 17% in the second quarter of 2022 versus the second quarter of 2019," Mr Crowley added.

Dalata's portfolio comprises 49 three and four-star hotels with 10,650 rooms and a pipeline of over 1,428 rooms. It currently has 29 owned hotels, 17 leased hotels and three management contracts.

The company operates Ireland's two largest hotel brands, the Clayton and the Maldron Hotels, and also operates hotels in the UK.

For the first six months of 2022, Dalata reported revenue of €220.2m and a profit after tax of €46.7m.
