Cairn Homes has been granted full planning permission for 569 homes in west Dublin.

The permission will allow for the construction of 173 houses, 148 duplexes and 248 apartments in Clonburris in Dublin 24.

The development will also include a creche, two parks and play areas for children.

The homes will be built within the Clonburris Strategic Development Zone, which will lead to the development of a new suburb between Clondalkin and Lucan.

It is hoped that Clonburris will eventually be home to more than 25,000 people, with the Government recently approving €200m in funding for the delivery of infrastructure for the area.

That includes the planned Kishoge train station, which will be between the Adamstown and Clondalkin/Fonthill stops on the Dublin-Kildare line.

"Today's announcement by South Dublin County Council is a very important milestone for us at Cairn, as we strive to deliver competitively priced new family homes in this soon to be substantial new suburb," said Cairn Homes' CEO Michael Stanley. "Cairn will be the lead developer at Clonburris where we will build 5,500 of the total 9,000 new homes planned over the coming years.

"Working in conjunction with the Government and South Dublin County Council at Clonburris SDZ, our aim is to create a large, vibrant and sustainable new community on our city’s doorstep."
