New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the seasonally adjusted Live Register decreased by 0.7% to 183,300 in July.

The CSO said the unadjusted Live Register total for July stood at 196,700 people. This consisted of 98,700 men (50.2%) and 98,000 women (49.8%).

Of those on the Live Register in July, 10.5% are under 25 years of age, while 89.5% are 25 years of age and over.

Today's figures also show that 9,942 people were benefitting from the EU's Temporary Protection Directive included in the Live Register figures for July, an increase of 2,795 from June.

The CSO said that people arriving in Ireland from Ukraine under the EU's Temporary Protection Directive can access a wide range of Department of Social Protection (DSP) supports.

New and revised data from the Central Statistics Office last week showed that the unemployment rate fell to a 21-year low of 4.2% in both May and July.

Provisional data had shown the jobless rate hovering at the level it stood at before the Covid-19 pandemic before the May reading was revised down to 4.2% from 4.7% and June amended to 4.3% from 4.8% previously.

Unemployment had stood at 5.8% in July of last year.
