A Planning application has been submitted for a luxury hotel on the Howth Estate in Dublin.

The 142-bedroom hotel is planned for the site of the former Deer Park Hotel, which shut over eight years ago.

The application has been submitted by real estate developer, Tetrarch Capital.

The new hotel forms part of the group's wider plans for the regeneration of the 472-acre Howth Estate.

Earlier this year, the group - along with the Michael J Wright Group - applied for approval for a major conservation and restoration programme to convert Howth Castle into a key tourism and hospitality destination.

Construction of the new hotel is expected to start next year.

It's hoped the business will be open in 2025.

It's anticipated that 280 jobs - including over 180 full time positions - will be created once the hotel is fully operational.

"The new hotel is a very important element of our plans for the regeneration of Howth Estate," Michael McElligott, Chief Executive of Tetrarch Capital said.

"It will provide top-class amenities and facilities that can be used by the local community and ties in with our vision of creating a major tourist destination for Howth, which, at one time, had four hotels but now has none," he explained.
