The Live Register of people benefiting from Jobseeker's Allowances or Jobseeker’s Benefit was 186,819 in June.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the numbers on the Live Register rose by 7,300 or 4.1% on the numbers in May.

The CSO also reported that 98,549 people were on the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme (EWSS) in May.

The scheme was ended for most businesses at the end of April and for all businesses at the end of May.

There were 268,035 people on either the Live Register or the EWSS, PUP or TWSS in May.

At its height, there were 1,179,449 people in April 2020 on support schemes.

Today’s figures also show there were 7,147 people from Ukraine under the EU’s Temporary Protection Directive, up from 6,941 in June.
