A new study of 18-24 year olds shows that more than half say that the current lack of affordable housing would encourage them to live and work outside of Ireland's main cities.
Rising costs are impacting future education plans with almost half saying it would have an effect on their choice and location of third level education, or indeed whether to pursue higher education at all.
The study was carried out among 330 18-24 year olds to better understand their career aspirations for the future.
Multinational companies were the most appealing organisations for young people starting their career, followed by working for small to medium businesses.
The majority of participants favoured the option of working from home fulltime, rather than working in the office or a hybrid working model.
The study was carried out to mark the launch of phase two of the Vodafone SIRO Gigabit Hub Initiative.
The second phase will see 15 new digital hubs connected in towns across Ireland.
"Our study clearly shows how important flexible and hybrid working is to the next generation, which continues to prove transformative for people, businesses and local communities," said Anne O'Leary, CEO of Vodafone Ireland.
