The Covid-19 pandemic last year continued to put a halt to years of strong profits by Katie Taylor's commercial firm.
New accounts filed by the Olympic gold medal winner and current undisputed World Lightweight champion's KT Sports Ltd show that it recorded a loss of €37,724 in the 12 months to the end of June 2021.
The period for the promotions and advertising firm covers part of the early phases of the Covid-19 pandemic where business here was subject to Covid-19 lockdowns.
The loss of €37,724 last year followed a loss of €46,392 in the prior 12 months that was also impacted by Covid-19.
Speculation is mounting that Taylor will fight in a homecoming bout in Croke Park in the Autumn that will be the Bray woman's biggest ever box office pay-day.
This follows a professional career high for Taylor where she edged out Amanda Serrano to retain her crown at the first ever headline fight by two women at Madison Square Garden in New York City in what was the biggest ever fight in women’s professional boxing.
At the end of June last, Taylor’s company’s accumulated profits stood at €1.74m.
During the period, the firm's cash funds reduced by €141,502 from €884,746 to €743,244.
In the prior period, the company snapped up three investment properties during the year with a combined book value of €754,850.
The 2020 accounts last year revealed that as a result of the pandemic some activities of the company "were paused".
However, a note attached to the new accounts states that at the time of approving the financial statements, there is no reason to believe that the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic will impact the Statement of Financial Position in any way.
The loss last year and in 2020 followed years of consistent profits - €174,899 in 2019, €37,369 in 2018, €110,075 in 2017, €262,180 in 2016, €250,000 in 2015, €303,931 in 2014 and €180,996 in 2013.
The 35 year boxer old turned pro in October 2016.
Katie Taylor sits on the board of KT Sports with sister Sarah Taylor and directors' pay last year increased marginally from €48,210 to €52,065.
Katie and Sarah Taylor approved the company's accounts last Friday on May 20. KT Sports was founded in 2009, three years after Katie Taylor won her first gold in the European amateur championships in Poland.
Across her amateur career, Taylor has won 17 Golds. She fought as an amateur since her first officially sanctioned fight aged 15 in 2003.
Underlining the fortune that Katie's exploits in boxing has produced, the first set of available accounts for the firm, which cover the period from April 2009 to June 2010, show that it made a profit of just €678 that year.
