Business group Ibec has appointed Patricia Callan as the Director of Financial Services Ireland (FSI) Group.

Ms Callan has been the director of Drinks Ireland since May 2017 and she takes over the FSI role from Paul Sweetman.

FSI is the Ibec trade association representing the interests of the financial services sector in Ireland.

Its 155 members are involved in the banking, insurance, fund administration, investment and asset management, corporate treasury, international financial services, aircraft leasing, securitisation and fintech sectors.

FSI also runs the International Financial Services (IFS) Apprenticeship and Skillnet programmes.

The domestic and international financial services sector employs over 105,000 people.

Before working at Drinks Ireland, Patricia Callan spent 11 years as Director of the Small Firms Association, the Ibec organisation exclusively representing the needs of small enterprises.

"Ireland is recognised as a global financial services hub, with 17 of the top 20 global banks and 11 of the top 15 insurance companies having a presence here," Ms Callan said.

"The resilient response of our sector to the pandemic, the huge growth of fintech and sustainable finance, the increasing number of women working in financial services and the concerted efforts of our sector to drive the skills agenda make this an exciting time to take on this new position," she added.

Ibec also today appointed Audrey Crummy as Deputy Director of Financial Services Ireland Group.
