Hardware retailer Screwfix is set to create more that 800 jobs by the end of January 2023, as it plans to open 80 new stores across Ireland and the UK.

The new roles will include retail assistants, assistant managers, and branch managers, in locations across Ireland and the UK, such as Roscommon, Swanley and Brackley.

The company said the newly recruited staff will have the opportunity to participate in their apprenticeship scheme, to join the 850 apprentices currently training across the business in areas such as retail management, supervisor, HR, finance, data and legal.

Last year the company opened 70 new stores, and plans to bring its store estate to over 870 stores.

"We know how busy tradespeople are and how important it is to be able to find a Screwfix store close to site," said John Mewett, CEO of Screwfix.

"In opening more stores across the UK and Ireland, we're making Screwfix even more accessible to tradespeople, ensuring they can get their job done quickly, affordably and right first time.

"We’re also delighted to be having a positive impact on local communities, creating more than 800 jobs for local people," he said.

As part of the retailer's commitment to reducing carbon emissions, it said the 80 new stores will be equipped with air source heat pumps to provide heating and hot water powered by electricity instead of gas.

The store network is already powered exclusively by renewable electricity, with over 250 existing stores fitted with air-source heat pumps so far.
