New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the seasonally adjusted Live Register total for April stood at 177,100, down 3,900 from March.
The CSO said that 55% of people signing on the Live Register in April were men, while 45% were women.
Of those on the Live Register last month, 9.7% are under 25 years of age, while 90.3% are 25 years of age and over.
The CSO noted that the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) scheme has now ended and final payments were issued for the week ending Friday March 25.
All PUP recipients have either transferred to a Jobseeker's scheme or had their PUP claim closed.
The CSO said that a total of 436,056 people were on the Live Register or were benefitting from the PUP, the Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme (TWSS) or the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme (EWSS) in March.
Of those, 50.1% were men and 49.9% were women, while 19.8% were aged under 25 and 80.2% were aged 25 years and over.
The CSO said the number of people supported by all schemes in March of this year was down from the 907,800 recorded in March 2021.

The Covid-19 income support schemes were introduced in March 2020 and the first payment of the PUP referred to the week ending 22 March 2020, while the TWSS was first paid on 24 March 2020, but could relate to earlier payslips.
The CSO said that of the 263,770 people currently estimated to have been directly supported by the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme (EWSS) in March 2022, 46.4% were men and 53.6% were women.
Figures earlier this month from the Central Statistics office show that the unemployment rate in April fell to its lowest rate since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, dropping to 4.8% in April from a downwardly revised 5.1% in March.
The rate compares to a figure of 7.5% in April last year.
Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys said that today's Live Register figure and the monthly unemployment rate also published a few days ago are very encouraging and reflect the re-opening of the economy and the growth in employment.
The Minister said that numerous employers are seeking to increase their workforce as we move into the summer season, providing jobseekers with opportunities in a broad range of services and other employments.
Later this month, the Department of Social Protection will host over 40 events around the country as part of a jobs fair week with a special focus on the construction industry.
This Jobs Fair week will be followed with similar jobs fairs in the coming months that will focus on other industries, the Minister said.
