AIB has appointed Michael Frawley as the bank's Group Chief Risk Officer and also as a member of the group's Executive Committee.

Mr Frawley, who has already received regulatory approval for the role, will be joining AIB later this year from Permanent TSB where he has served as CRO since 2018.

He succeeds Deirdre Hannigan who confirmed last year that she would be retiring at the end of June this year.

A senior risk professional with a 25 year banking career spanning retail, commercial, wholesale, asset management, trade finance, strategy implementation and risk experience, Mr Frawley has extensive international experience from his previous roles at HSBC in the UK, Asia and the Americas.

AIB chief executive Colin Hunt said that Mr Frawley will bring a wealth of diverse risk management, commercial and leadership experience to the bank.

"Deirdre has played an important role in our business and I would like to thank her for her deep commitment to AIB," the CEO said.

She can be proud of her many achievements as Group CRO over the past five years, including embedding a strong risk culture in the group from which we will continue to benefit well into the future," he added.
