Dublin City Council has granted planning permission for the first phase of the development of the former Irish Glass Bottle factory site in Ringsend in Dublin.

570 new homes are planned for the site which is part of the Poolbeg West Strategic Development Zone.

The project is being led by a consortium made up of developer Johnny Ronan's Ronan Group Real Estate, alongside Oaktree Capital Management and Lioncor Developments.

"Located on the Poolbeg peninsula in the heart of Dublin, the Glass Bottle site looks out onto Dublin Bay in what is an incredible location," said a spokesperson for the consortium.

"The granting of an initial 570 much needed homes, marks the start of what will be an exciting journey not only for Glass Bottle but the entire city of Dublin."

It is expected that construction will commence this year.

The plans envisage the construction of 63,160 square metres of mixed residential and commercial development.

A quarter of all units delivered will be allocated to social and affordable homes, with privately owned homes and build to rent also part of the project.

Hundreds of bicycle parking spaces, cycle lanes, pedestrian walkways and EV charging points are to be built into the site.
