Pharmaceutical company MSD Ireland has announced 70 job losses at its plant in Brinny in Cork.
It is understood a voluntary redundancy programme has opened and a consultation process with staff and unions will now begin.
In a statement, MSD said the job losses at its Brinny plant were part of an evolving site strategy to ensure continued viability for the long-term.
"As part of the ongoing evolution at MSD Brinny, the site continuously evaluates resourcing across all its operations to ensure optimum skills, resources and expertise are in place to support the business," according to the statement.
"MSD Brinny today announced a reduction in its total workforce of approximately 70," the statement read.
MSD was first established in Ireland more than 50 years and employs 2,800 people across the country.
700 people are employed at the Brinny plant.
"MSD Brinny has been in operation for more than 35 years and is a strategic site within the global MSD network," the company said.
MSD says it is committed to Ireland and has invested more than $4 billion in its Irish operations.
