Industrial producer prices in December rose across both the EU and the euro area at an annual rate of 26.2%, new figures show today.

The figures show the highest annual increase occurring in Ireland at 99.2%.

Ireland also recorded the highest monthly increase in industrial producer prices of 13.3%. The average monthly increase across the EU was 6.9% and 7% in the euro area.

On an annual basis, across the euro area prices rose in the energy sector by 73.4%, 18.6% for intermediate goods and 4.8% for durable consumer goods.

Prices excluding energy increased by 10%, today's figures show.

Industrial producer prices are the prices paid for raw materials and energy at the factory gate. Normally, they eventually translate into higher prices for consumer goods.

Consumer price inflation in the euro area rose to an annual rate of 5.1% in December.
