New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that Covid-19 continued to have an impact on international travel to and from Ireland in November.
The CSO reported 785,800 overseas passenger arrivals and 785,000 overseas passenger departures in November, decreases of 15.1% and 12.3% respectively from the October levels.
It also compares with 103,900 arrivals and 96,800 departures in November 2020 to mark increases of 656.7% and 710.9% respectively.
But the CSO said that overseas travel in November of this year was still about 40% lower than pre-pandemic November 2019, when there were 1,351,400 arrivals and 1,328,400 departures.
Today's CSO figures show that of the 785,800 people arriving in Ireland last month, 96% (754,500) arrived by air and 4% (31,300) arrived by sea.
Of the 785,000 people leaving the country 95.5% (749,700) departed by air and 4.5% (35,400) left by sea.
The CSO said a total of 4,263,000 overseas passengers arrived in Ireland and 4,289,300 overseas passengers departed from Ireland in the first 11 months of this year.
This compares to both 4.3 million arrivals and departures in the same period in 2020 and 18.8 million arrivals and departures in the same time in 2019.
Today's figures also show that apart from Great Britain (which accounted for all cross-channel routes), the most important routing countries for overseas travel in November were Spain (94,700 arrivals and 85,700 departures), Germany (45,800 arrivals and 47,500 departures) and France (43,900 arrivals and 47,900 departures).
