The 3 millionth person has registered for an account on the MyGovID platform, according to the Department of Social Protection.
The service provides users with a safe and secure 'single sign on' to online public services in Ireland.
The Department says it is designed to facilitate a more joined-up Government approach, with more sharing, more reuse and more integration between public bodies.
MyGovID provides access to a range of online public services including Welfare, Revenue, Transport, Education, and Agriculture.
Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys TD said 3 million people now availing of the service is a significant milestone.
"MyGovID enables people to securely access Government online services quickly and at a time that is convenient for them.
"For example, in the Department of Social Protection people can avail of the www.MyWelfare.ie service, which gives them access to a huge range of our services without having to post a paper form or call into their local Intreo Centre. The delivery of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment to nearly 900,000 people would have been much more difficult if we did not have this key piece of digital infrastructure.
Minister Humphreys encouraged anyone who hasn’t already done so to register for MyGovID.
Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Michael McGrath also welcomed the growth in users.
"Delivering services online improves user access and user experience. Increasingly people look to transact business online and expect that their public services are accessible online at any time that they wish to access them," he said.
"The Irish public service is working hard to meet these expectations and as a country we have an ambition to be at the forefront of delivering public services digitally."
