Dublin woman Orla Collins has been appointed President of the professional accounting body, ACCA.

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants represents over 750,000 members in 178 countries around the world.

Ms Collins is the first female president from Ireland in the in 118-year history of the organisation.

She is only the fifth woman to hold the role in that period.

Alongside her full time role as deputy managing director of Aberdeen Standard Investments Ireland, Orla has been a member of the ACCA Council for the last decade.

She originally joined the ACCA in 1997.

"For my presidential term, I'll focus on opportunity and the value of the global accountancy profession," Ms Collins said on her appointment.

"I want to celebrate all that ACCA offers as a professional body to its members, future members and its wider community," she added.

Orla Collins is the holder of an MSc in strategic management. She is a member of the Institute of Bankers, a licentiate of the Association of Compliance Officers in Ireland and a qualified financial advisor.
