Food delivery platform Just East is to create 160 new jobs in Ireland to support the continued strong growth in customer and restaurant partner demand.

The new jobs come on the back of a dramatic increase in sales over the past 20 months, as Covid restrictions prompted consumers and businesses to use its service.

The 160 new roles will be mainly based at the company's new Dublin offices and will involve jobs in customer service, sales, office management and facilities.

Just Eat also said it was expanding its Irish office presence by over 20,000 square feet with a planned move to the 35 Shelbourne Road building in Ballsbridge next February.

The company also said it plans to recruit couriers in a variety of locations across the country over the coming weeks.

Amanda Roche-Kelly, Managing Director of Just Eat Ireland, said the "substantial expansion" of its operations in Ireland reflects the support and loyalty of its customers as well as the quality of food and service that is consistently delivered by its restaurant partners.

"A continued increase in demand for our services has justified this investment and we are very excited about what the future holds for us here," she added.

Ms Roche-Kelly said that with the reopening of the hospitality sector many of the independent restaurants that offered delivery for the first time in the past year have continued to maintain that as a key part of their business over the past number of months and intend to maintain it for the long-term.

"In addition, those that always offered a delivery service have responded to evolving consumer choices and the increased demand by broadening the choices available and hours of opening," she added.

Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar said the 160 new jobs will be mainly based in the company's HQ in Dublin, to support the many restaurants right across the country who use the Just Eat service.

"I know how much many people relied on takeaway services during the pandemic and the fantastic work many delivery drivers and riders did during that time. It's encouraging to see the sector continuing to thrive and grow," he added.
