Chips were the top takeaway order over the Bank Holiday weekend, according to Irish food ordering software developer Flipdish.

Battered sausages and pizzas were also popular choices, while Coca-Cola, Coke Zero and Fanta were the most popular drinks orders.

The data shows that Bank holiday Monday orders in Ireland were up 135% from a regular Monday in October.

"I am delighted to see that as the country begins to reopen after a turbulent few months and people can come together once again and enjoy a takeaway or some food in a restaurant with each other, something that we once took for granted," said Conor McCarthy, CEO and co-founder of Flipdish.

"Seeing orders increase by 135% this bank holiday Monday compared to a regular Monday in October is heartwarming as Irish consumers are keen to order directly from their favourite restaurants and takeaways and aid in the recovery of the hospitality sector," he added.
