Medical devices company VistaMed is to create 100 new jobs at its facility in Carrick-on-Shannon in Co Leitrim.

Founded in 1999 in Carrick-on-Shannon, VistaMed currently employs 525 people between its R&D Innovation Centre in the town and at its manufacturing facilities there and in Roosky.

The company produces a diverse range of catheter-based products used in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures such as cardiology, electrophysiology, peripheral stent delivery systems, urology, endoscopy, neurology and pain management.

The new jobs will include positions created in management, engineering, technicians, operators, automation, quality control and validation and administration.

"This latest jobs announcement is in direct response to the strong demand for development and manufacturing capabilities in VistaMed from existing and new customers," Patrick Mulholland, Managing Director of VistaMed, said today.

"This is an exciting time in the continued development of our company, many of the devices we develop offer exceptional opportunities for engineers to gain experience working with the most innovative products to come on the market," he added.

IDA Ireland chief executive Martin Shanahan said that today's announcement by VistaMed and its strategy for its Irish operations is most welcome.

Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar said news of today's "significant expansion" demonstrates VistaMed's continued commitment to Carrick-on-Shannon and underscores Ireland's position as a global hub for the world's leading med tech companies.

Robert Troy, the Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise Trade & Employment, said today's news from VistaMed is a welcome boost for Carrick-on-Shannon and the surrounding area.

"The expansion will see the company providing an array of skilled employment opportunities to the people of Leitrim. VistaMed are industry leaders, and their decision to expand in Leitrim is a strong endorsement of the talent and resources in the region," he added.
